An upgrade of the Woolamai Beach Surf Life Saving Club's community area. Upgrades include new fridges, lights, tables, chairs, the renovation of toilets and the construction of a new clubhouse entrance which will provide a more direct, public-friendly entrance to the club community area. The clubhouse was originally built in 2000, in original condition, and is in need of a serious overhaul. With this funding, the club will be able to provide a clean, professional looking community area which will be able to be used by local community group gatherings, weddings (fundraising) and club social events.

By upgrading the clubhouse community and training area, the clubhouse will be able to become a meeting place for community groups. We are improving our training and education area not only to broaden member training but to also enable minority groups to be included such as disability nippers, CALD youth, troubled teens etc. An increase in weddings and engagement parties will also be able to take place due to upgraded facilities, generating increased revenue to purchase much needed rescue equipment.

After seeing the surf club facilities on the Sunshine Coast earlier this year, it makes you realise how basic Woolamai’s club/ community facilities are. Woolamai really needs this funding to take this club to the next level!

The Woolamai Beach SLSC clubhouse is the central and most important piece of infrastructure enabling volunteer lifesavers to provide emergency services to the Island, training for lifesavers and the community in water safety e.g. nippers and a social hub for club members and the local community.

This is a most worthwhile project for sevearal reasons.
Surf Lifesavers save lives
Surf Lifesavers save tourists lives
Tourism is a primary earner for Victoria's economy and especially Phillip Island.
Tourists generally will not attend locations where their lives are in danger but will when lifesavers are present
The training and sporting activity that produces lifesavers not only generates the above outcomes but also a person
who willingly gives back to their community often in trying and dangerous conditions
Without the funding the lifesavers will eventually be unable to maintain their patrols at Woolamai

Please put this project to the top of the funding list. It is vital for the continued operation of surf lifesaving in the area.

Woolamai lifesaving club is a fantastic organisation that not only provides a safe swimming environment at two busy beaches on popular Philip island, but also developes and supports young people within the community by means of the many fitness, safety and leadership training opportunities it provides to its members..
The club relies on members to commit a huge amount of time as volunteers and requires financial assistance to maintain its assets and equipment to continue to operate..
This is a wonderful service provider and community support and now deserves government assistance to continue its good work.

As a parent of 3 children that have greatly benefited from the Woolamai Beach Surf Lifesaving Club Nippers Program, I see the huge potential for this project, not only in the improvement of the Club's ability to provide essential VOLUNTEER life saving services to the wider community that flock to the beautiful beaches of Phillip Island, but also allowing the Club to continue to improve the way in which it services the community through improved facilities. Being able to provide a community venue with greater access and an increase in functionality, will greatly assist in strengthening the ties between the Club and the community it serves. Providing a function centre will also greatly reduce the load on fundraising, by providing a source of income, which in turn will allow the Club to focus on it's most important role, which is of course, saving lives.

A project to bring tighter and better links between a fantastic community-based organisation and the community itself is a worthy project.

What a great project for an amazing club who gives so much to the community and saves so many lives. Not many organisations and projects that have that outcome!
Would be great to give something to enable continued service and development for their members so more lives can be saved in the future.

This club provides an imperative service to the community. A funding project like this ensures this service continues at the highest level.

Woolamai is a rugged surf beach - and the lifesaving club, whose location has saved countless lives by facilitating rescues outside of patrol hours needs constant maintenance and development to resist the wind/sand/salt and remain functional for members.

With 38% of Phillip Island/San Remo's jobs and economy relying on tourism, patrolled beaches are an essential part of a coast resort destination. Woolamai Beach SLSC has been providing that service for 60 years and now covers 100km of coastline with patrols at Cape Woolamai and Smiths Beach and a jetski callout service from Newhaven.

But our main base at Woolamai Beach is in dire need of repair and upgrade. It's exposed to a harsh coastal environment and is home to our equipment, training and Woolamai Beach observation tower and patrols.

Help repair this critical facility, improve access for those with a disability and provide a facility for community events and functions.

The rapidly growing Woolamai Beach SLSC is in need of many upgrades to their facilities to meet modern expectations as it heads into it's 60th year of protecting the Phillip Island and greater Victorian communities

This is an essential lifesaving service for Phillip island. Keeping these facilities maintained will encourage membership and help save lives across the island.
