Women love footy. And we love watching them play. One of the biggest problems facing women's football in Yarra is that we're space-poor and, if the Fitzroy Football Club is to grow the women's game, we need to provide adequate training and playing facilities at the grounds we do have, so that women – like men – can train and play safely and with the same prominence.

Women's football in Yarra is so popular that, for the last two seasons the Fitzroy Football Club has been inundated with interest from young women wanting to train and play. But because of a paucity of grounds and facilities, the Club has had to cap the numbers at 70. Better lighting and an electronic scoreboard at Brunswick Street Oval will ensure women have access to the same quality of training and playing arenas as men's squads. And give greater access to playing, spectating, and volunteering for everyone in the local community.

These lights will improve training safety at night and will cater for the growing number of female players to get involved

Improved lighting at grounds in Fitzroy to enable teams to train safely in the evening, and access to more ovals to cater for increasing numbers of female players — a great idea.

Successful sporting teams foster the following positive attributes:- co-operation; a sense of endeavour, purpose & achievement; grows community spirit & character; enhances quality of life in a local area; provides a sense of belonging & decreases isolation & depression; preserves & perpetuates history & tradition (Fitzroy Football Club commenced in 1883), fosters future leaders who acquire "can-do" attitudes; sense of fair play & abiding by rules; teaches how to accept both success & defeat with dignity; health & physical fitness which in turn provides healthy mental & emotional development; provides free entertainment, friendship & bonding for supporters who find positive activities in volunteerism around their club; positive & constructive socialising in an all-inclusive environment. Please help the Roygirls as they contribute to equality in a hitherto all-male activity and forge a new aspect to the fantastic Fitzroy Football Club.
