The Nature Bus will see the conversion of a bus into a classroom on wheels, visiting local schools, early learning centres and community organisations to provide nature based learning programs, nature play and environmental stewardship initiatives. The conversion of the vehicle will involve local schools and organisations in a collaborative and community focused project. There will be an initial 6 month period where local schools/groups can access The Nature Bus programs free of charge, with the activities designed to allow kids of various ages and abilities to participate. The Nature Bus will be the first of its kind in Australia!

Children’s SOCIAL, ACADEMIC, MENTAL and PHYSICAL HEALTH are positively impacted when they have regular opportunities to connect with nature.

But many local schools find it difficult to fund/access resources to provide students with valuable nature/environmental learning and play opportunities.

Kids today are also spending more time indoors and on screens and less time outdoors.

This disconnection from nature is making them unhealthy, unhappy and unsociable.

The Nature Bus aims to help local kids, schools, community and nature by:

• offering nature connection opportunities for improved health/wellbeing
• providing affordable nature/environmental programming
• nurturing a strong environmental ethic in our kids

Wonderful initiative for our kids physical health, education and encouraging a connection with our environment. Connection with nature has positive impacts on mental health, an antidote to the, often, negative effects of social media. This is an exciting innovation

My son loves his iPad waaaaayyyyy too much! I love the thought of getting him involved in the great outdoors and actively working towards this (like the introduction of this project), rather than just whingeing about 'kids today'! Great initiative! Good luck.

Thanks for your support Anna! We hope to inspire more kids (and parents and teachers too!) to put down the screen and get into the green more often together! Technology is a useful tool but it's finding the balance that's often a challenge.
The more often kids get a chance to experience the benefits of time immersed in nature for themselves and for those around them, the more often they'll make an active choice to get outside to play, learn and explore.

Fantastic program! These days with children being exposed to portable electriconic devices, experiences we had as children are few and far between. It’s important to tech kids to enjoy and experience the outdoors.
Collecting insects was a favourite past time, and one I look forward to with my children

A great idea to engage kids in nature. To explore, wonder and feel connected to their place. Love it!

What a pity I can't vote for this terrific initiative just because I don't live in the area! This is a fantastic project idea for developing an awareness and appreciation for nature. Good luck - you'd definitely get my vote!!
