We have a tired old basketball court that is in desperate need for a makeover. It facilitates use from 500+ people every week, including the Avengers Basketball Club, which is growing rapidly in numbers as it is the key local basketball club in Seaford. The court cannot continue to sustain the use it gets on a weekly basis. The proposed facility upgrade would include the following:
• Prepare old asphalt and surface levelled.
• New asphalt overlay, drainage installed.
• Resurface court with acrylic top coat, including lines.
• Install fixed roof structure.
While the Avengers use the school facilities, they are not formally part of the school; they are a model grassroots sports club, servicing the wider community. The club has increased from 3 to 12 teams in 4 years, providing access to basketball for more than 90 local children, from 9 different schools.
A new covered basketball court will allow uninterrupted scheduling of team practice sessions, basketball games and workshops. The court will be open and accessible to the local community on a regular basis. The Avengers expect that with an improved facility, their team numbers will continue to grow.
