Currently the primary school oval is in a terrible state of repair that leads to the children & wider community not being able to use it for much of the year.
We have met with different independent consultants to develop a plan for the upgrade of the oval to a synthetic multi-sports surface of over 3,500m2 in size and provide a running track as well as marked out areas and infrastructure for soccer, tee-ball, football & netball.
The cost of the upgrade is $400,000 with the school able to contribute $200,000, the additional funding is hopefully coming from this grant.
With the upgrade to the all weather synthetic sporting surface, we would open up the oval to local sporting associations for their training needs (some of whom have already registered interest) and the broader community on weekends and after school during daylight hours.
It has already been identified that within our local community there is a lack of suitable sporting facilities and open spaces.
With “Health & Wellbeing” a priority of all communities, having sporting infrastructure that increases the outdoor physical activity of the current students of the school plus access for the broader community just makes sense.

Governments, media and organisations, are continually speaking about promoting a healthy lifestyle for our children, especially in a society that is all about digital technology. To help promote fitness and keep students healthy we need an oval that is practical, safe and inviting to all students .

The children need a safe place to play. Backyards are smaller these days, so the children deserve a big open space to play on, run and enjoy their sport.

The students at St Margaret's love and value their sport and physical activity; and the oval is not meeting the needs and interests of the students. In the winter, the oval is muddy and the summer, it is extremely dry. This makes the oval unsafe to play on for the majority of the year. As the PE teacher at St Margaret's I only have a small fraction of the year where the oval is safe to take lessons on, therefore limiting the range of sports students can learn, whilst using the appropriate surface. I often hear the children talking about the state of the oval and how much they would love even some grass to play on!

As an ex st Margarets student, I would love to see the oval repaired. Now my children also go to st. Margarets and it still looks the same as when I was a student here. Definitely Needs an upgrade ASAP.

A much needed upgrade. This school has had terrible uneven surface of the oval for years.... not ideal at all on kids joints and risk of injury get higher as the oval gets worse. This upgrade is a must!

My boys attend this school and all the kids deserve to have a safe space to play on. So this is an amazing opportunity to improve the oval surface and get the kids more involved in sports and activities.

The only primary school in Maribyrnong, it is vital the school gets the money to create somewhere safe for the local children to footy, etc. It is currently either a mudpit or like concrete! Please give these children the safe space they need to play.

The kids need a space to play on that is free of bare dirt, mud and weed tufts. With very limited space to play generally, the oval is off limits after rain. Its not fair to limit play to such a small, hard surfaced area over winter. The kids need a place to kick a footy or soccer ball in a safe environment.
