Our theatre accommodates the extensive College years, 7-12 Performing Arts program, along with providing access for Bayside community groups hosting events, including dance, drama and musical theatre. Our theatre lacks air conditioning. The enjoyment, and especially the health and safety for both performers and audience during summer performances is risked with temperatures exceeding safe levels - often reaching over 30 degrees. This can exclude members of the community from the very young, elderly and disabled during the heat. We will install air conditioning for the enjoyment, inclusion and, health and safety of all Bayside community members who use the theatre.
Seating audiences of 325 per performance, 110 events a year, entertaining over 35,000 Bayside community members plus the cast, crew and orchestra, Sandringham College is committed to including all Bayside community members. Enjoying performances in safe, climate-controlled comfort including the elderly, disabled or isolated. The focus on community access to the theatre attracts local groups including primary schools and local performing arts groups showcasing their events. Our project will install air conditioning controlling the climate for the community’s health, safety and ultimate enjoyment during summer performances, providing access and inclusion for all. Having sat through a number of prize givings on hot December 30 degree evenings (neighbouring schools all use the theatre) fully support the need for aircon. Extremely uncomfortable for those on stage and in the audience.

Air conditioning is vital for the Sandringhmam College theatre. I am only surprised to learn that this is not a standard requirement for health and safety reasons. Keep up the great work Sandringham College and I hope that you get this much needed resource.
