In Feb -Apr 2018 we ran a very successful Pop Up Park pilot in the heart of the town centre. Based on the learnings and success of the pilot, we are now looking to create a longer term Community park.

Our working concept of the park includes: Astroturf, shade , festoon lighting, Community benches and planters. A cubby play element, a painted playful zebra crossing and modular and easily reconfigurable furniture. The idea being the elements are low maintenance, highly durable and the space easily configurable for events, movies and Community led and organic activity.

The space will provide an outdoor focal point for our Community to connect in (55% of those surveyed made new connections) and help provide ongoing vibrancy and atmosphere for the surrounding traders.
This space will be utilised for markets, festivals, local arts and cultural and community activities that will showcase talents within the broader Community. There is the need to build resilience, strength and connections in a Community with over 160 ethnicities & one of the fastest growing in Victoria. The equipment will make up a kit for future activations that create community connection and enhance local economic activity.

What a difference this made to the town centre. It was inviting and seeing so many families out together was wonderful.
The music and vibe had us eating lunch and dinner outdoors and we didn't want to leave.
I'd love to see this back!

As one of the trader at Pointcook town centre, I definitely say Sara and Susan you both did and doing an amazing job by bringing community together. Park brought smile and engery on our street. Murnong street has lot of potential however need to pull bit attention from the community and pop up park 100% played and will play a vital role for this.
So definitely a big YES from the whole team of Dosa Hut

Building community connectedness in new suburbs is critically important . This initiative has outstanding potential to ensure that Point Cook and it’s diverse inhabitants have the opportunity to do that through this project.

Thank you Sparticus it certainly is. Resilience in a Community is key for its strength and well being. Having over 160 different ethnicities and being one of the fastest growing suburbs in Australia means that spaces like this for people to connect are critical.
