In Feb -Apr 2018 we ran a very successful Pop Up Park pilot in the heart of the town centre. Based on the learnings and success of the pilot, we are now looking to create a longer term Community park.
Our working concept of the park includes: Astroturf, shade , festoon lighting, Community benches and planters. A cubby play element, a painted playful zebra crossing and modular and easily reconfigurable furniture. The idea being the elements are low maintenance, highly durable and the space easily configurable for events, movies and Community led and organic activity.
The space will provide an outdoor focal point for our Community to connect in (55% of those surveyed made new connections) and help provide ongoing vibrancy and atmosphere for the surrounding traders.
This space will be utilised for markets, festivals, local arts and cultural and community activities that will showcase talents within the broader Community. There is the need to build resilience, strength and connections in a Community with over 160 ethnicities & one of the fastest growing in Victoria. The equipment will make up a kit for future activations that create community connection and enhance local economic activity.

I love what Yarraville have done with their pedestrian area, if Point Cook can achieve the same then it's an asset to the community.
Thank you for the feedback. Our pilot earlier this year was inspired by the Pop Up Park In Yarraville in front of the Sun theatre. That is now a permanent park. We are looking here to do a longer Pop Up Park again in front of the restaurant precinct in the Point Cook Town Centre and we think it would be a great asset too.

This pop up was loved by my whole family. It brought the community together in such a fulfilling way. We are really hoping it returns. That sense of belonging is such a wonderful feeling which leads to a happier community who are proud to call Point Cook home.

We really hope the Point Cook Pop Up Park receives the funding required. We don't normally visit the Point Cook Town Centre but when the park was on we went nearly every week. We loved the activities for the kids plus the many family and cultural events. The outdoor movies were great and it encouraged us to stay in the town centre for dinner and lunch on many occasions. With living in such a diverse area, community events such as the Pop-up Park are a great way to meet new people, appreciate different cultures and feel welcomed.

71 comments from a population of over 50,000 is hardly overwhelming! There are plenty of fantastic parks in Point Cook without wasting what is essentially tax payers money on a plastic park.

My Mum’s group came from Williams Landing to play here with our littles. Such a great space for all ages. A definite yes!

The Park was such a great addition to the Point Cook Community overall. So much happened there, new friendships, renewed ties, new discoveries, new hopes to many I can tell. I was so pleased to vote for this amazing community initiative. I miss the park dearly. I had a really hard time at work at the start of the year, with many colleagues on leave and I was feeling so lonely. Being able to go down and visit the park on my lunch breaks or whenever I could find the time took that lonely feeling away. It really helped me when I needed it. I know it was the same for so many in our community. I cannot wait for it to return and I urge everyone in our community to vote for it today! Thank you Susan and Sara, youve put so much into this and we are all so thankful for your work.

The Point Cook Pop Up Park was not just only a urban space - it took community building and placemaking up another level.
It facilitated positive engagement, interaction and vibrancy at the very heart of Point Cook, connecting neighbours and the greater community alike.
The Point Cook Pop Up Park lived up to its tagline of “Connecting the Heart 💚 of Point Cook” and became much more.
It would be wonderful to have the pop up park back and have it for a longer term.
