Mountain biking (MTB) is a nature-based sport that is experiencing a rapid increase in popularity and participation. The Plenty Gorge Park (PGP) is immediately surrounded by the Whittlesea, Nillumbik, Darebin and Banyule communities (550k+ population), and the MTB trail (~21km) delivered by this project will enable formal access for all levels of MTB users from beginners & families to intermediate enthusiasts; not only to the immediate surrounding communities, but also to the Greater Melbourne region. This project will enable and encourage MTB access on safe, well-planned, marked and maintained trails and protect significant vegetation, habitat, and cultural values in PGP.
Represented by the PGMTB Club in collaboration with Parks Victoria, this project is currently an approved but unfunded opportunity in the Plenty Gorge Park Master Plan that will contribute towards the key objective of increasing park awareness and involvement.
Formalising a MTB trail network in PGP will contribute to nature-based visitor experiences which will encourage active recreation in nature, while protecting conservation objectives, making MTB accessible to the local community.
With PGP's unique landscape and its location in a growing community, this project will respond to the community’s interests and needs, enabling open space access in a beautiful, natural setting.

I love the Gorge. It would be great to have ParksVic help maintain and develop the area for all in the Mountain biking community
Thanks for you support.
The Plenty Gorge MTB Club will certainly continue to play a role in the Plenty Gorge Park. It is there for all to enjoy, and not just mountain bikers!
I live locally & ride in at least 3 times a week. This is an important area for riders so I hope it can be managed in a sustainable way to ensure riders can continue to enjoy the are for many years to come
Thanks mlunn66 for your comment.
We agree 100% with your comments. Components of the funding will go towards cultural & heritage assessments as well as environmental assessments.
The Plenty Gorge MTB Club is committed to working respectfully with Parks Victoria, as the landholders and follow the formalisation process.
Been riding here for years and it would be great to have the trails formalised. There is nothing this close to the CBD for mountain biking
Lyall, lovely to hear that you're enjoying the park. We do too!
Formalising the trails in the Yellow Gum area will make it even more accessible, safe and sustainable.
Love riding here. A great way to get youngsters into the sport in a safe and accessible location. Formalising the trail network would be terrific!
It is a great way to get the youngsters active and learn about nature.
Thank you for your comment and support, Eberbachl!
PG is where my mountain bike life began, would love to see the trails get some tlc and draw in riders from different areas
We share the same vision as you mbyma. Wouldn't it be a great story if many up and coming mountain bike riders cut their teeth at Plenty Gorge Park.
Such a great location for riding so formalising the trail network just makes sense.
It certainly does Corey. It can only lead towards greater things.

We are excited at the prospect of formalising the trail network in Plenty Gorge Park (Yellow Gum area). The club and its members have been terrific in supporting our efforts thus far.
Be great to formalise the existing tracks
Absolutely with you there casnell.
There is already a lot of tracks out there. This project will look to assess and formalise the trail network in the Yellow Gum area and ensure its sustainability going into the future.
Amazing areas with great potential for formalized trails and expansion to Bridge Inn Rd
Thanks for your comment FishNBrewis.
Our project will be focusing on the trail network in the Yellow Gum area of Plenty Gorge Park. We think this is where the best riding exists and we would love to see them formalise.
We must ensure access to our community in a culturally sensitive, environmentally friendly and sustainable manner.
So much potential for good MTB at this place
We already think there is great MTB in Plenty Gorge Park!
It would be the icing on the cake to formalise and share with our community.
Excellent trails that could become some of the best in Australia. Plenty Gorge is a much needed outdoor recreation area for the northern suburbs.
Well said rohankendall! Thank you for your support!
Plenty Gorge Park is in a unique position, being in the heart of the expanding community in the Northern suburbs.
It's important that we get it right, which is why we are partnering with Parks Victoria to implement this project.
