Mountain biking (MTB) is a nature-based sport that is experiencing a rapid increase in popularity and participation. The Plenty Gorge Park (PGP) is immediately surrounded by the Whittlesea, Nillumbik, Darebin and Banyule communities (550k+ population), and the MTB trail (~21km) delivered by this project will enable formal access for all levels of MTB users from beginners & families to intermediate enthusiasts; not only to the immediate surrounding communities, but also to the Greater Melbourne region. This project will enable and encourage MTB access on safe, well-planned, marked and maintained trails and protect significant vegetation, habitat, and cultural values in PGP.
Represented by the PGMTB Club in collaboration with Parks Victoria, this project is currently an approved but unfunded opportunity in the Plenty Gorge Park Master Plan that will contribute towards the key objective of increasing park awareness and involvement.
Formalising a MTB trail network in PGP will contribute to nature-based visitor experiences which will encourage active recreation in nature, while protecting conservation objectives, making MTB accessible to the local community.
With PGP's unique landscape and its location in a growing community, this project will respond to the community’s interests and needs, enabling open space access in a beautiful, natural setting.

Great spot for a ride morsjm! We love the feeling of isolation and escape from the 'rat race' that Plenty Gorge offers.
Vote #1 PGMTB
Thanks for your vote Chris! 😀
Such a great place for getting fit and enjoying the outdoors
You're not wrong Kjbiker. It's one of our favourite places to ride.
This is a valuable asset for all those who appreciate fitness and nature. Self, community, environment - it can all be found here, riding in the bush with good friends. Great for mental and physical health.
You've summed it up well 40percenter. Riding bikes is a great activity to unwind, and when experienced socially in a safe and accessible environment, it's even better.
Thanks for your support.
Went out for first time last weekend.. what a spot so close to the city
How did find your experience JulianV?
Plenty Gorge Park's promixity to Melbourne and the communities developing makes it a unique area. We, as a community, need to ensure the park remains in great condition for many generations to come.
Make it so. More outdoor options the better.
Thanks for you comment McWhirtz.
We're advocating on behalf of the MTB community and we hope that our project will soon be implemented!
Country in the city. Absolute nature oasis and essential escape for health, wellness and fitness. I have seen the incredible benefits of a similar program in Jindabyne and I whole heartedly support this project.
Thanks for your insight Hayleyscomment. Your support really means a lot to us.
I've never visited or ridden at Jindabyne, but I've heard great things that echo your observations. We hope that our project can achieve the same benefits for the long term health of the park and the community.
Absolutely gorgeous place and so nice to be able to enjoy this physical activity in such beautiful settings with a treasure trove of trails, so close to where I live. Thanks team!
Thank you Jorgen for your support.
The project aims to balance all these factors from cultural and heritage values, to protection of environmentally sensitive features, and to ensure the community can access and navigate the park in a formalised capacity.
Sounds great, looking forward!
Thanks for your support Rimu! 👍
Love riding here with friends and family. Great way to stay fit while enjoying the natural environment. Formalising the trail network would be fantastic.
Thanks Dino. We're glad to hear that you enjoy riding in Plenty Gorge Park!
We are absolutely BLOWN AWAY by all the feedback, comments and experiences that you're sharing with us! ❤️
Please spread the word with your family, friends & workplace and encourage them cast a vote to our project.
If you are having trouble adding the project to your shortlist, please ensure you set your 'local community' (at the top of the page 👆) to "Plenty VIC, Australia" or a community within ~5km of Plenty.
Keep the comments (and votes) coming! And if you have any questions about the project, please ask and we'll endeavour to respond.

Great place and more people should enjoy it.
Plenty Gorge Park really is a hidden and unique gem. Hopefully the project will make it more accessible to the community.
Thanks for your support ppiaia!
Plenty Gorge is an asset as a mountain bike destination, and as a green space. However it is in danger of being loved to death. Formalising the trails will not only let this place live up to its potential as a seriously good place to ride, but also help protect this urban bushland.
Thanks for your comment Stib.
That is exactly our sentiment as well. This project isn't about building new 'sick' tracks and 'mad skidz' - it is about respecting Plenty Gorge Park for what it is, and ensuring sustainable and respectful access for generations to come.
We need something special like a mtb track to bring people into the area.
It will put Plenty on the map.
It will help clean up the old quarry area and help with the re vegetation of the area by getting some funding.
So close to Melbourne to be able to use public transport and ride down hill all the way back to the city.
We think Plenty Gorge Park is special, just like you Gum nut. Thanks for you comment and support. Although, we're pretty sure there are some hills between Plenty Gorge Park and the city! 😀
Seriously good terrain in this area, been riding here recently and the trail network is just waiting to be official. Would love parks to get behind this, it would continue to be a spot for generations to come and rip
Thanks smurph2509. Great to hear that you enjoyed your time riding in the park.
Parks Victoria are absolutely behind this project. If this project is successfully voted, we will be partnering with Parks Victoria to deliver the mountain bike trail program as outlined in the Plenty Gorge Park Master Plan.
Good project, PG can only get better with more investment.
Thanks for your support jamescbdunn. We hope that we can deliver this project and create an accessible activity for our community.
I've been riding the trails here for years, a bit of funding might get a few more kids off the streets and onto mountain bikes
Glad to hear that you've been enjoying the trails for some time now.
We'd love to see everyone enjoy the trails, and available for beginners and young kids to "cut their teeth" at Plenty Gorge Park!
I've been riding mountain bikes in this area since I moved to Greensborough in 2011. It's already a popular destination with riders across Melbourne so I look forward to the day when anyone can come and find their way around with the aid of signage and maps, to enjoy the natural beauty of this bushland so close to Melbourne's urban heart.
Thanks for your support and insight emerthis.
It really means a lot to us. We look forward to being able to look back at this point and see how all our the effort and dedication has manifested and evolved into something good for the community and park!
The gorge is an amazing place and there should be investment in projects like the MTB project to formalise the tracks and get more people to visit. Formailsing projects such as this ensure we continue to make our nature areas assessible to a variety of interested groups
Plenty Gorge is a real gem, isn't it Matt-p-77!
We agree that making nature accessible to all of the community is important, which is why we are partnering with Parks Victoria for the trail formalisation process.
Get out & get active people! What better way to have mtb trails maintained & permanent:)
Totally with you on that Jamjam. We hope to look back at this time in many years in the future and reflect on making Plenty Gorge Park accessible to our community.
Thanks for your support!
Awesome network of trails. Good luck 👍
Thanks for your support Domenic! We think that enjoying Plenty Gorge Park is good for the soul!
It’s a major asset of the north, let’s secure its future and make it better than it is. Beautiful spot for a ride.
Thank you for you comment. And thanks for your support.
We certainly should never take Plenty Gorge Park for granted. Which is why we are partnering with Parks Victoria create a safe and accessible network that ensures we keep cultural & heritage factors in mind.
Good luck!
Thank you AnnaMo!
It would be great to be involved in club and trail maintenance. The gorge is great for physical and mental health .
