This new outdoor landscaped area will be the heart of the school: the main entry; a community meeting space and a mindfulness area for students to use. In a recent well-being survey, students identified the need for a play area to be set aside for passive activities, away from the ball games and active play areas of the school. Our new passive play and community space will serve as a quiet place to relax and sort out problems, chat to friends, meet new people and become an additional outside classroom and a special project area for our students and community.
Our school was originally built for three hundred students and now we have close to eight hundred and fifty students and many new portable classrooms. This limits places to sit and be calm without the danger of being hit by a ball. We will work as a team with our wonderfully diverse students and local people to build a passive play space for the school and outside of school hours for the community to come and meet at the school. This space will incorporate our diverse culture, local history and native flora and become the heart of our community.

Port Melbourne School has a large number of children and families who live nearby. The more the community space and parks created, the better it is. It will encourage kids to be active.
This is a much needed space for the school children at Port Melbourne Primary and it will enhance their school experience on a daily basis.
Much needed at this primary school; important for the kids.
Positive ideas also great asset !
Such a fantastic initiative and a great multi-use of the space. Would be a real asset to the Port Melbourne area.
I feel very sad for these kids looking at the above photo. Of course, my son would have been head to toe in mud within one minute! Think of the parents who have to do the laundry people! Seriously there are so many great options for play spaces which incorporate recycled products and innovative imaginative play, let's give our kids something nicer than what we grew up with.
Passive areas urgently needed in area. Great asset for wellbeing in this modern society.
Very important to have for our kids
Much needed for our children
This would be a fantastic space - one that is desperately needed
Fabulous initiative!
Absolutely essential to have such a space.
Port Melbourne has so few schools and facilities for children.
A great initiative. Good luck.
This is a significant community project, a school of this size needs to have a place for kids to go for passive pasttimes as well as areas for more physical games as well. I know that my son will love this when the sounds and activities of the school fete get too much for him and he needs some time to regulate himself. Please vote for this extremely important space in a school that has gone 4 times over its original capacity.
Much needed for our kids!
Very important

Important for the kids!
Absolutely essential given the numbers of students and the condition of the open space.
This is so needed!
Outdoor space for all purposes is a must for this school and community.
Much needed for our kids!
It's very ironic that my son has to go to this school according to city zoning, but I can't vote.
