This project is certainly one that ‘falls between the cracks’. The road around the hall is used all day by the public and is in serious need of full refurbishment. Parking spaces adjacent to the public toilets are unpaved. The hall solar system helps to offset costs and CO2 emissions but cinema usage exceeds the generation. Finally the public toilet upgrade in 2014 did not include hygienic floor tiling. So we have a project in three parts – new and renewed bitumen, upgrading solar from single phase 5 kW to three phase 15+ kW and tiling the public toilet floors.

This infrastructure project makes the Swanpool Hall precincts more attractive to visitors and locals alike, fixing potholes and filling in muddy puddles. The floor tiling in the public toilets improves hygiene as well as appearance. Vehicles are coming and going all day.

Swanpool Cinema operates at the hall 10 months of the year and is entirely run by community volunteers. The existing 5 kW solar system works well to offset electricity usage but isn’t sufficient. An upgrade to a 3 phase 15 kW system would get us over the break-even point, helping to ensure Swanpool Cinema keeps on screening.
