McDonell Park is used by Northcote JFC, Dennis Cricket Club, Parkside FC, schools and the wider community. The footy and cricket clubs have been increasing the number of their female teams plus their overall membership but the poor facilities create limitations.
The second oval is not floodlit. Footy teams train in semi-darkness or lose out on training opportunities. The lack of floodlights means Northcote JFC cannot offer all the required training and it limits wider community use.
The project costs have been developed in consultation and from standard cost estimates but if higher than anticipated club reserves are available.

McDonell Park is an open area used by local footy and cricket teams offering concessionary rates and opportunities to anyone wanting to play.
The addition of floodlights enables more training, more teams and addresses safety concerns when children train during winter. It will also permit additional shared use with other sports clubs, such as Parkside JFC.
Northcote JFC has various initiatives to remove barriers to participation including a program with free membership, kit and transport. The floodlights will help this program offer more sessions and enable wider community use.
The project makes McDonell Park an even better community space.

This is a great sports club with a great community spirit. McDonnell Park deserves any upgrades you can throw at it - especially lighting as the number of teams has increased with many new girls teams now out on the park too!

I sit there for 2hrs watching my 9yr old son play then my daughter.
It's not fun playing in the dark.
Please approve the grant for the floodlights making
it more enjoyable for the enthusiastic players.

A great community organisation that’s having a real impact in empowering young girls and women through sport. It’s so important to create a safer space for community participation on an oval that gets hammered by sporting clubs, dog walkers and local kids at all hours. A really important local project which would provide long term community benefits.

With the rapid urbanisation of this area and multi-dwelling property development reducing yard sizes, providing floodlighting on the second oval to increase community usage as the 'backyard' for many families.

More lights would encourage more families and children etc to get out and enjoy the full park facilities for longer hours.

With girls football exploding we really do require a second functional oval for training. Simple as that.

Please light it up! And use GREEN POWER (like solar or wind) to power it. Cheers

Keeping kids fit and learning new skills should be encouraged. I have two kids playing Junior football and getting them off Playtstation and out into the fresh air is a priority. Let there be light.

An established yet growing club like this requires better facilities. More lights are needed to make training safer and functional.

More lights are definitely required. The current lights only cover half of the ground. This is a great concern with safety. I go to watch my child train at NJFC and can't even see him in the darkness.
More lights please!!!!
