Apollo Bay’s outdoor, recently heated, 25-metre community pool is under-utilised and does not meet our community’s needs. This project will transform the existing pool into an indoor facility, providing year-round access; economic, social and health benefits to the community, non-resident rate-payers and tourists. A new structure will be erected over the existing pool with roller shutters providing outdoor access in warmer weather. The community pool will open at least 20 hours per week year-round to the public. In addition, there will also be Learn to Swim classes; Otway Health’s Warm Water Exercise classes; and Apollo Bay P-12 College’s swimming programs.

There is a strong community need for therapy and leisure to improve the health of the whole community, including learn to swim for youngsters, competitive swimming for school aged children, lap swimming and exercise for older members, injury rehabilitation, plus the social aspect for seniors who may otherwise become isolated. Additional employment opportunities afforded by a pool open for a longer season will benefit the local community long-term. A heated pool is also a community asset, contributing to the attractiveness of Apollo Bay as a place to live. All these factors benefit the vibrancy, cohesion and stability of our population.

It’s really important that a beachside community has adequate facilities for teaching its children to swim. This would be the f great benefit to the local school and the wider community.

This would be a widely used facility, I would love to be able to have swimming lessons for my child closer to home than an hours drive away.

Apollo Bay would benefit from a heated pool as all ages would benefit from it as well as tourists.

Of utmost importance for people to learn to swim and for others to keep fit and healthy ( especially our aging community)

A warm community pool will allow children to learn to swim and year round access to healthy water based activities for all in Apollo Bay

Our 6 year old daughter is learning to Swim during the week. A heated pool in Apollo Bay would allow us to continue her development when we stay at our Apollo Bay residence most weekends of the month.

Heating and enclosing our pool and making it accessible all year round will improve the health and wellbeing of the community.

Heating and enclosing the current outdoor pool, would ensure that it can be used all year round by our community and visitors alike

For us retirees it would be wonderful to have a chanc to do water aerobics and swim in warm water. By the time you drive an hour to Colac and back, it takes away the benefit of the swim.

This would benefit the community so much! At the moment I have to drive 1hr inland to teach my kids to swim! Making 1 half hour lesson take up to 3hrs a day!
