The space will provide an interim recreational space for the community to participate in a range of activities including dance, fitness classes, martial arts, school holiday programs, sporting clinics, and community information forums. Any group providing a service for the local community will have access via an online booking system which will be managed by a local community member. There are a number of groups who have already expressed interest in running services to the community pending availability of such a space.
Merrifield is a new emerging community of approximate 2,000 residents who do not have access to an indoor space large enough for recreational and sporting facilities. There is a small interim community facility across the road from Merrifield in Annandale although this only has enough space for a small group fitness class up to 6 people. Residents are having to drive 15 minutes minimum to access such facilities in surrounding areas. Having a local interim indoor sports and recreation facilities will enable social connections to be formed in an area that is relatively socially isolated.

This would be most welcome by Merrifield Residents and Young People as they only have an outdoor facility for Basketball Clinics which during Winter months will cause these to be cancelled so need an indoor facility so these Basketball Clinics can continue all year round. Obviously would also be used by other Sporting Organisations throughout the week.

There is no indoor games space in Hume. Craigieburn has Splash but there is no indoor badminton facility that would be good to play. As the community is growing, it will require a sport facility like this.

Indoor recreational facility is needed for such big community being developed in the area for classes such as yoga, fitness, dance, children and adult programs, indoor sports, cultural programs etc.
