Indoor Community Recreational Space

The space will provide an interim recreational space for the community to participate in a range of activities including dance, fitness classes, martial arts, school holiday programs, sporting clinics, and community information forums. Any group providing a service for the local community will have access via an online booking system which will be managed by a local community member. There are a number of groups who have already expressed interest in running services to the community pending availability of such a space.

Merrifield is a new emerging community of approximate 2,000 residents who do not have access to an indoor space large enough for recreational and sporting facilities. There is a small interim community facility across the road from Merrifield in Annandale although this only has enough space for a small group fitness class up to 6 people. Residents are having to drive 15 minutes minimum to access such facilities in surrounding areas. Having a local interim indoor sports and recreation facilities will enable social connections to be formed in an area that is relatively socially isolated.
