The project is to update the existing lighting at HMHC to the international standard of 500 LUX. Project will use existing poles and wires and will benefit all users of the centre. In particular the TEM and Hawthorn Hockey Clubs who have approx 1200 members aged 7 to 75 of both genders in broadly similar numbers. This represents approx 10% of the registered hockey players in Melbourne. All users will benefit from upgraded lighting, particularly during winter when most training and many games are played in the evenings/nighttime. Currently the lighting is very uneven creating shadows which is undesirable.

The project will benefit the local community with:
-improved safety and vision for players, umpires and coaches
-improved viewing for spectators
-better directional focus of lights meaning reduced impact on neighbours
-LED lights are far more energy efficient than the current lights leading to reduced greenhouse emissions
-Hawthorn and TEM Premier League teams playing night games at home rather than 3rd party venues
-reduced ground hire costs for TEM and Hawthorn Hockey Clubs
-new lighting technology will reduce the maintenance and electricity costs associated with managing the hockey centre reducing the financial burden on Hawthorn and TEM hockey clubs.

This great community project. It is used all year round and a great community asset that is used by schools, for club hockey, tournaments and social games across all ages. The light upgrade would add further capacity in enabling a great facility to be even better utilised.

Tem / hawthorn hockey club is a great community for hockey players. Hockey is a winter sport and the quality of lighting is essential to optimise training and games. This is an extremely active hockey precinct and the grounds are used every night for training and or games. Enhanced lighting would add to the quality of this great precinct that is used for schools, clubs and country week when the country comes to the city to experience exemplary hockey facilities.

In this day and age of excess screen time, anything that can be done to encourage children and youth to be outside playing sport, getting fit and socializing is so important. Kids that play sport also tend to do better at their studies. This project will do assist this, and the green benefits are also extremely valuable.

Having played hockey for most of my life proper lighting makes a huge difference to the safety of players and also improves the experience for everyone involved. It will draw more people to be active and play sport in the area.

Lets get everyone out there into a properly well lit and worthy community sporting activity like hockey. Even better is the number of people driving past who will say I can do that....and get children off their devices!

This venue is used by thousands and thousands of children and adults throughout the year. It is home ground to a number of hockey clubs, including TEMs, Hawthorn, and Carey. It is a fabulous resource, used by men, women, teenagers, children, schools, individuals and clubs. It doesn't just benefit those immediately involved with the clubs or schools. Lots of visiting teams from around the state, as well as visiting schools from around the state, use the facility from early in the morning - 6am, often til 10pm at night. A reduction in power usage enables that power to be used as required by other Victorians, or better still, not at all. Everyone benefits.

Such an important improvement for our centre from many points of view: safety, skills, environment, just to name a few.

Energy efficient LED light globes will provide suitable lighting levels and improved safety for local community sporting events with an estimated 65% reduction in running & maintenance costs and nil impact to the surrounding amenity compared to the current lighting.

This facility is heavily used by host clubs and visiting teams across Melbourne and Victoria. lower cost to run lighting will be of benefit to all of us. Lower greenhouse emissions, less call on peak power.. Less need for maintenance. Better lighting levels for safer play. Focused light reduces light pollution byproduct effects on our neighbours. Win=Win.
