Fyans Park PS - Solar Community Hub

The goal is to install a Solar Energy system larger than the direct needs of the school, so that the broader community can benefit from the energy this creates. Education around the operation, efficiency and viability of running solar systems would be provided through the school to community groups, sporting clubs, parents and the broader school community. Students, teachers, parents, Resource Smart, Deakin University and other school community members would have access to the data from the unit. This would be used to monitor efficiency, educate students around alternative energy and the importance of sustainability in our community.

In the short term, the school community will benefit through energy savings annually between $10,000 to $15,000. This money can be redistributed to school improvements, programs and educational resources. Local community charities such as Geelong Mums, could be further supported through sponsorship and donations.
In the long term, the excess energy produced by the system could feed back into the grid to produce credits for the school. Depending on Government legislation, storing this energy could also be sold through a blockchain-based electricity network to generate further funds for the school community, charities, local clubs and events.
