There are no disability accessible swimming pools anywhere in the Mount Alexander Shire. Anyone with a physical disability needs to travel between 40-57km to either Bendigo or Kyneton to get in and out of pools safely. This project will provide hydraulic chair lifts for two swimming pools in the shire, 1 indoor pool in Castlemaine and 1 outdoor pool in Chewton . The hydraulic chairs will be installed to standard & with the independence they provide comes the dignity of people using it.

Providing disability access includes our aged and less able population, and reduces significant travel time and expense. The situation now is prohibitive to most of those less able. Providing access locally increases social connection and inclusion; water exercising adds to health and mobility and reduces travel time and expense to travel outside the Shire for pool access.

This project will align to the VicHealth's initiatives or campaigns to get people moving and exercise and empowering those that has special needs...I love seeing people taking care of their health and make an effort to exercise. At the end of the day, everyone can benefit from healthier living and happier lives...

To enter a pool safely and with dignity is a big step towards feeling socially connected and keeping fit. Many need this assistance to do so.

As a wheelchair user, I swim for exercise. This is crucial to my health and well-being. I have always had to travel to Kyneton or Bendigo to find an accessible pool, so this will change my life for the better. Not as good as a new accessible aquatic Centre, with a heated indoor pool, but a step in the right direction!

Water exercise is essential for some of us with disability. It will help us to stay alive longer. Sometimes using water as our exercise is the only way possible for us to exercise. A person with a disability needs to have this available nearby. There are currently no accessible pools in Castlemaine area

Great idea as it would open up use of the pools for disabled people of all kinds. I do voluntary driving and often take people to physio. - All of them tell me how much benefit they get from exercise on land and in water.

This day and age I can't believe that not all pools are accessable.
