We live in a global society and need to educate our kids about our rich multi-cultural diversity. We need to celebrate difference and uniqueness and we need to raise citizens who treat each other equally. This project seeks to create awareness in five primary schools in the Cardinia Shire on two CALD communities: the Sudanese and Sikh. We will use different activities over a one-year period including presentations, reading material and tours. Activities will ensure participation of students and teaching staff, such as competitions (essays, presentations, posters, photography etc.). These will focus on a growth mindset and peer-to-peer learning.
1. Help our kids develop global citizenship
2. Kindle curiosity to enhance multicultural learning including new languages
3. Make school warm and welcoming for everyone
4. Promote community bonding on local and wider scale
5. Broaden horizon of our students through proposed activities
6. Create new experiences that educate them (i.e. socially-conscious)
7. Develop knowledge, researching, writing and presentation skills
8. Reduce racial violence in schools
9. Improve student mental, physical health
10. Promote social inclusivity and harmony
11. Upskill school staff and parents (hence community) about other cultures and faiths
12. Eventually develop systems thinking skills in our students
