The Coronet Bay Wetlands project will be located at the beach end of Norsemen's Road, Coronet Bay. It is a peaceful, natural and beautiful haven with abundant birdlife, often roosting, with Cormorants and Wattle Birds and is bounded by Coastal Banksia, She-oaks, reeds and wetland foliage. To enable walkers, cyclists and the disabled to enjoy this tranquil setting we would like to build a shared pathway around the entire wetland area, 2.6 hectares which will include a number of recycled seats. And to enhance bird watching we would like to build a bird hide with signage highlighting the extraordinary birdlife.

The Coronet Bay Wetlands is part of the only existing Coastal Banksia Grove on the eastern side of Westernport Bay. The shared pathway will offer an alternative trail for walkers, cyclists and the disabled, for both locals and those from the wider community giving them an opportunity to enjoy a tranquil well established bushland area as well as the extraordinary abundant birdlife. The bird hide with signage will educate and inform those visiting the hide this can include walkers along the share pathway as well as local school groups, mothers groups and birdwatchers.

Thank you to all for your comments and hopefully votes for this much wanted community project. Protecting the environment as well as the bird and wildlife is incredibly important to the Coronet Bay residents as well as the wider community. Bass Coast is currently experiencing phenomenal growth so it's important to enhance and protect this tranquil and peaceful wetland for the use of generations to come.
Good luck to all the projects and thank you to the State Govt for allowing every Victorian to have a voice.

Great idea however the location might cause more tension than relief. If the map is accurate this is the intersection of multiple users. For some years there has been great discussion between the locals, holiday makers, dog walkers and horse users who all use this entrance to the beach. The council has created a set of zones that placate and provide for all users. Whilst protecting birdlife is important, it would be disappointing that these conversations were raised yet again on the back end of a new set of stakeholders.

Concern with this project is that stagnant water is a breeding ground for mosquitoes, potentially spreading disease to humans and animals.

This is a beautiful billabong with copious bird life and frogs. The sounds at dusk and dawn are unbelievable. Must be preserved but safer access should be available but not too close.

The wetlands sit in the remnants of the last surviving grove of Coastal Banksia on this eastern side of Western Port Bay. An additional reason for funding this project.

It would be great if it could be extended down to and include the footbridge over the creek. That would make it a fantastic recreational showpiece. However the works originally set out would be a great start to making this end of Coronet Bay more appealing.

As a resident of the town, I love to take walks and listen to the bird calls. The wetlands and banksia grove provide an important habitat. Establishing a path will provide environmentally sensitive access.

This idea I first heard of from Stanley and I thought at the time GREAT. Now a few years down the track, I still think its a great idea. Bird lovers from all over would also appreciate it.
