The Coronet Bay Wetlands project will be located at the beach end of Norsemen's Road, Coronet Bay. It is a peaceful, natural and beautiful haven with abundant birdlife, often roosting, with Cormorants and Wattle Birds and is bounded by Coastal Banksia, She-oaks, reeds and wetland foliage. To enable walkers, cyclists and the disabled to enjoy this tranquil setting we would like to build a shared pathway around the entire wetland area, 2.6 hectares which will include a number of recycled seats. And to enhance bird watching we would like to build a bird hide with signage highlighting the extraordinary birdlife.
The Coronet Bay Wetlands is part of the only existing Coastal Banksia Grove on the eastern side of Westernport Bay. The shared pathway will offer an alternative trail for walkers, cyclists and the disabled, for both locals and those from the wider community giving them an opportunity to enjoy a tranquil well established bushland area as well as the extraordinary abundant birdlife. The bird hide with signage will educate and inform those visiting the hide this can include walkers along the share pathway as well as local school groups, mothers groups and birdwatchers.

The wetlands are an amazing asset to Coronet Bay and to our neighbors at Corinella.
I am for protecting the sanctuary for the seabirds and other species that gather there.
Although the intentions of those wanting to have more access to the sanctuary by circumnavigating the sanctuary with a path and hide, I am a little worried that more access equals more intrusion on the bird life. How this is done is important as up to now its low-key treatment (mostly hidden) has been beneficial to the birds. In my experience most people are considerate but you only need a few nitwits to be noisy or hold bottle o parties there and the birds would soon move on!
The project is designed to reduce the disturbance of the bird life through further infill indigenous vegetation, track fencing and the bird hide at the junction with the foreshore track. An important design element is to reduce the existing obvious intrusion of people and pets towards the retention basin waters edge, which is happening without a formal track.
What an exciting project. This area has been under utilised for too long.
Wow! So cool!

It will be the icing on the cake for this location. Just what it needs.
