Warr Park in Brunswick will blossom into a free Food Forest for everyone in the community to enjoy. Scrummy, healthy food will be available from abundant fruit and nut trees, fully accessible self-watering vegetable garden beds, and an integrated children’s play garden. A coffee cart run by trained volunteers will pamper park users. Everyone will be able to share organic vegetables and produce freely with a Grow Free vegetable cart. This wonderful resource will be accessible to all and will encourage sustainability. The Food Forest will be maintained by community volunteers, supported by Brunswick Neighbourhood House.

With Brunswick Food Forest, our community will connect and grow. Everyone can participate, whether it’s playing, learning, or helping to plant, care for, and harvest fresh organic food. Healthy free food benefits all members of our community. This type of community engagement fosters productive relationships, promotes healthy activity, and shrinks our carbon footprint, reducing food miles to almost zero. Valuable training opportunities will create pathways to employment and volunteering. Forest volunteers will learn horticultural skills and sustainable food production techniques, the coffee cart will offer hospitality training, and the management of the vegetable cart will engage community development trainees.

This would be a perfect use of the space. I love the community building element and the fact that it provides an opportunity for both children and adults to learn about growing food.

This would be such a worthwhile project providing assistance and skills for people interested in gardening and healthy food for residents

For those who live in apartments and flats, a community garden is an opportunity to develop and exercise their green thumb.
