Mornington Cricket Club wishes to make application for $193,825 to replace its four cricket nets and construct six new cricket training nets with retractable netting. This creates a multi sport use area where the area can be used by cricket and other sports all year round. It increases overall sport and female participation. The area will be open to the general public, football, netball and cricket clubs. For example, the 250 netball teams at Alexandra Park will be able to practise on the surface (when it's not used by the 350 cricketers) by removing retractable nets.

New facilities are needed for the 20 junior and senior cricket teams playing at this venue, including one female team. The existing practice nets (four) are over 40 years old. Due to the lack of cricket nets, training for teams is reduced or transferred from this site.

Improving the nets allows us to meet community expectation to cope with the growth in participation that has occurred over the past 40 years. The site is not coping with growth. Upgrading the cricket nets creates a multi purpose sport area, meeting the community need for cricket and other sports all year round.

Compare our facilities with almost every other football league in Victoria- Mornington should be embarrassed. Urgent need for upgrade.

Desperate need for more nets as numbers of players have increased. Encouraging all people to be active is really important in our society. Team sports can do so much good for all the participants

Mornington Cricket Club
1982 - 4 cricket nets: 2 junior sides & 5 senior sides. Training at 1 venue, 3 nights a week.
2018 - 4 cricket nets, 9 junior sides & 5 senior sides. Training at 3 venues and 5 nights a week.
Club has outgrown facilities 20yrs ago, local community deserves more.

since there will NOT be an Aus Day parade next year (council, saying it costs too much for fencing and security... maybe the council could put that money into getting new nets for the cricket club.
or maybe use the under the table payments made to them from a couple of main st traders..... (maybe i wasn’t meant to say that)

150 year old club supporting the community youth with completely unsatisfactory facilities which haven't had any capital investment for some 35 years. Please help us provide facilities to support this important part of the community.
