We need positive environments, experiences and people surrounding our older children so they grow into healthy teenagers. Youth Action 3081 will provide this through a year of free, tailored, out-of-school activities for 10-14 year olds in Heidelberg-West. There will be tasters, weekly groups, holiday programs, excursions and celebrations. Whether it’s girls-only, high-adrenalin, sport, creativity or homework help, we’ll provide a wide range to suit the diverse personal and cultural needs within our community. Led by a Community Steering Group, Banyule Community Health will coordinate activities, with in-kind support from local education and community services and an evaluation by Latrobe University.
Our young people are at higher than average risk of low health, education and employment outcomes. Research shows that if older children have positive experiences between 10 and 14 years, they are more able to navigate the challenging mid-teens positively.
Our program will provide safe venues, 80+ activities, and high-quality workers. We’ll engage 150+ older children, building their skills and confidence, to grow into resilient adults with loads of potential.
We will work together with families and services and share the successes of this program across Victoria, hoping it will be a model for the future and pride for Heidelberg-West.

Heidelberg West has had a problem with enough activities for young people to do. Many of the organised sports etc. have been closed. This would be a great initiative for the young people of 3081.
