We are proposing to extend the existing trail from Yackandandah Gorge to Bells Flat Road, creating a further 1.7km of multi-use trail on crown land, following the creek. Partnering with Yack Tracks and Landcare, the trail will include directional signage and interpretive signs educating visitors about flora/fauna and history, with areas for picnics and observation. Landcare will continue wildlife monitoring with the use of motion sensor cameras and install further nestboxes in partnership with local schools. The track extension will also create a link to the Yackandandah Mountain Bike Track Network, providing a safer access point than the current road.

According to Yackandandah Tourism, enquiries about the Yackandandah Gorge track are received daily. We propose to develop the first stage of a 6km circuit to create an off-road loop to the township. The circuit is already widely used recreationally, but largely on unsealed and winding roads, so this project would address long-standing issues of community safety. Extending this track would create opportunities to maximise community health and tourism outcomes, showcasing the area’s unique landscape/history. It will provide a link to the Beechworth to Yackandandah Mountain Bike Trail, identified as a key priority in Indigo Shire’s current Economic Development Strategy.

An extension to this trail would be most welcome. I love the existing walk but it would be far better if it were longer. My dog would love it too.

A much needed connection between the township if Yackandandah and the volunteer built MTB cycle tracks. Really important for public safety and tourism in the Beechworth/Yackandandah area.

Great idea to have a safe way to walk and ride to the bush tracks

Every kid that grows up in a town like Yack deserves the opportunity to get around town safely using off-road links. With the advent of the Beechworth to Osbornes Flat Rail Trail, Yack Tracks MTB network and hopefully this project getting a run, everybody in the Yack area will benefit from a safe, attractive transport alternative for years to come.

This is a great idea. It will allow the scout group based at the sports park more opportunities to access the gorge area and to be able to get get to the forest and Yack tracks area without having to walk on the road.

Much, much safer for walkers and cyclists by getting them off a dangerous and highly used dirt road.
