Wyndham Community Lawn Bowls

Over recent years Wyndham has grown rapidly due a large influx of migrants, first home buyers and people entering retirement living. This has resulted in many people experiencing isolation and disconnection.

My project seeks to breakdown these social barriers by introducing lawn bowls to community/migrant groups. Bowls is a fun, welcoming sport that can be played by everyone, regardless of age/gender/race, in a safe, healthy environment. This project will deliver:

• 30 community bowls evenings
• 2 bowls evenings for families with children’s amusements
• Cost free entertainment
• Opportunities for diverse social interaction
• 1500+ people socialising through bowls

This Project will benefit the community by:

• Providing an opportunity for participants to interact with new people
• Advancing inclusion and connection for migrant groups
• Encouraging cultural diversity
• Providing a new experience that might have long term appeal
• Providing outdoor activity that improves health and well being
• Encouraging social cohesion and understanding by breaking down barriers
• Reducing loneliness and isolation
• Providing working parents with some “me time” on family nights
• Providing fun and entertainment to participants
• Promoting lawn bowls
