As a child 50 yrs ago we used to swim with the detergents and warm water from the foreshore toilet block block running into the river! It's sad to think it that this is still an issue.

Restore Water Quality and Improve Community Understanding of Wye River •High levels of bacteria continually exist at the mouth of Wye River, closing the area for swimming. •Engage scientific researchers to undertake water testing using eDNA technology to specify the animal causing the high e-coli so the source can be addressed. •Restoring river health contributes to restoring community wellbeing after the 2015 bushfires River Summit •Hold a community run river summit inviting government agencies and stakeholders. •Discuss and develop long-term river health improvements. Restore Riverbanks •Weeds dominate the riverbank, they need to be removed and replanted with indigenous vegetation.
•EPA warning signs in the estuary currently detract from our river as a safe and natural environment and the experience of the iconic Great Ocean Road.
•Young and old can swim in the river mouth and ocean without danger of ill health.
•A healthy Wye River provides great value for local businesses, CFA and SLSC.
•Improved water quality is advantageous for all wildlife, including two threatened fish species: the Australian Grayling and the Australian Mudfish.
•Removal of weeds and restoring native plants and habitat will improve access and enjoyment of the river for recreation including: walking, birdwatching and fishing.

Not much will stop children from playing in this wonderful estuary, certainly not a sign!?
It is only a matter of time before any/all of these children become seriously ill and are the local council prepared for the devastating and monetary consequences of their serious lack of action beyond a sign? When so many visitors seek to enjoy the area... Don't wait! Do something NOW
Will this project be run by the Shire? Is there a more detailed plan for the project? The only actions I can see listed are replacing 'weeds' with 'indigenous' species, and water-testing to 'specify the animal causing the high e-coli', which is 'so the source can be addressed'. The causes (and therefore the solutions) may be more complex than that, given that the estuary is part of a complex system heavily impacted by human interventions. I would absolutely support a thorough investigation of the problem to identify the causes and options for solving the problem. Is that what we're being offered here?
So so needed. My little boys love swimming here. One of my little men in particular is autistic and doesn’t understand why he can’t swim here. Please please please pick this project!
It is well overdue
How beautiful it would be to see kids playing in the river again.
How can this project not be undertaken? Wye River is a small river that flows through a busy camping ground and children's playground and out onto one of the most popular beaches along the West Coast where thousands of people swim, wade and play throughout the year ... there is no question, the water must be safe and free of dangerous levels of bacteria.
Would be so good to reclaim the river
Great for this beautiful area
Totally behind this project, it is a must for the community and long overdue
Lets start with one and move up and down the coast
Fully support as a War River ratepayer
This is an important project to allow safe swimming and the overall health of Wye River

The current state of the Wye River is a health hazard
