Women's Words will be set up like a mother's group, in the sense that the group will have scheduled get togethers on a weekly basis in a family friendly venue. Female guest speakers will be invited to present to the group each week on different subjects and areas of need. The first six sessions will have allocated speakers, the content of the last six weeks will be established by the group once they have come together and agreed on their specific needs. Each session will include a presentation and then an interactive question and answer session.
Women’s Words is designed based on feedback that a growing need among new arrivals and refugees. Many are sole parents and victims of domestic violence. They do not understand the Australian school system. Some do not understand the role parents should play in their child’s education. Some are suspicious, want guidance on how they can find work, gain some independence and contribute to the family’s income. Women's Words will address these needs and provide a support network.

The difficulty for families leaving home, society and culture to enter a new country with different social norms, civil practices and traditions can’t be over estimated. But to do this as a woman with the added probability of isolation is seems even more challenging! This sounds like a great project to mitigate against these issues.
