The Women’s hub space is a section of The Islamic Centre at Al Siraat College. As mums who live locally to Melbourne’s outer north we use this space as a convenient location to run our mums & bubs Islamic storytime sessions every Wednesday after dropping off older kids. The school encourages us to invite mums from the broader community to our parent-led programs, designed to foster greater social cohesion & friendships. Unfortunately during the wet seasons water leaks through the main entrance and the carpet needs upgrading. The school’s priority is to build infrastructure that caters to increasing student numbers.
Al Siraat college represents over 400 families primarily living in Melbourne’s north & outer north from over 50 different ethnic backgrounds, over 80% from low socio-economic demographic. Majority of attendees are mums from the school community. Currently hundreds of people use the Women’s hub each week for various activities. Recently we celebrated Neighbour Day encouraging women to bring their neighbour for morning tea. This term we’re running a series of sustainable-living, health & wellbeing workshops in this space as well as a free CPR course for women and engaging women, young and old, in ways that are meaningful and sustainable.
