The project aims to create 50 memory boxes in support of families grieving the passing of a newborn baby or for one born sleeping at GV Base Hospital.
The locally handcrafted wooden boxes will provide a strong, large and secure place for families to store a collection of precious keepsakes. The box will contain a specially designed photo album, angel gown, Bear of Hope, plaster kit to capture hand and foot prints, candle, handmade patchwork quilt and a book titled “On the night you were born”.
It is given with love by the community in acknowledgement of their beautiful baby.
The two local families driving this project know first-hand the grief of losing a baby. They also know how much their own Memory Boxes and special keepsakes have helped them, as well as their other children and extended family, preserve the memory of their child and survive their grief.
They are keen to ‘pay forward’ the beautiful boxes that they received and ensure those who experience the loss of a baby at GV Health have the same access to Memory Boxes as those in Metro Hospitals.
It is also a show of community support. “Your baby matters to us"

This is is a worth while project and government should support it and also take it to all service clubs in the region to help to support it

It's things like this I wish were around when I Lost my Danny. There was very little support during one of the most Difficult times in my life to date . To me these boxes are a form of recognition, acknowledgement and validation to a precious lives taken from us way to soon . A way to let us know we are not alone and a way to Remember forever those precious , Minutes, Hours, Days and Weeks and Months , which ever your own personal has been . An acceptance of our Angel Babies and their very existence and of the struggles we and our babies endure . These precious boxes will house Memories created to be stored within the box Which will remain forever with us . Bless you Ladies for your Strength and willingness to open your hearts and help others through their Grief Sincerely Pauline
