The amenities would be located on City Council land available to all - locals, visitors, young and old, recreational and commuters.
Location priority has been based on Bicycle Network trail usage statistics and in accordance with "open spaces" planning. Practical factors consider placing amenities at locations that minimise installation costs and provide enhanced passive surveillance to limit vandalism. Specific points have been identified; along the Bay (Williamstown and Altona), Laverton, Kororoit Creek and Skeleton Creek Trails.

In total, the bid would be for 5 water points and 5 maintenance stations along with hoops and signage where appropriate (see budget breakdown).

Water points reduce the risks of dehydration whilst encouraging all age groups to take outdoor exercise. In turn, a healthy lifestyle reduces demand (costs and time) on health care.
Maintenance stations provide a range of tools impractical to be carried by the average cyclist, again, providing an added incentive for the local community to participate in recreational and commuter cycling.
Additional facilities would attract more visitors to the region, more often, with corresponding opportunities for businesses.
With staggering population growth predicted, the West needs well provided trails to facilitate active transport to help reduce vehicles, congestion and pollution.

A great idea that also encourages more active bike riding along our Hobsons Bay Trails :)

As a bike rider I would find the increased amenities a wonderful bonus. We are trying to encourage active travel and the benefits to fitness and health which flow on from this are great.

A brilliant idea for the whole of Hobsons bay! With the Bayside trail highly used by locals and visitors, it will be awesome to know you can get around the community and pump up a tire or tighten a seat when you are riding around. Would be great to have one near Altona Pier as Altona no longer has any service station or bike shop to help a bike in trouble!
