Watchem has a couple of walking tracks that connect areas within and adjacent to our township. We have one that extends south from town centre to edge of town. Another goes west to connect town and Watchem Lake. Plan extending the south end track to Blair Street for annual Fun Run to continue without using the highway and to install lighting where needed on all tracks, around the lake and to enhance the new community owned church. Along with this is a plan to include indigenous awareness along track to the lake. Will include some fitness equipment in some areas.
Community members, campers and visitors to our lake, annual fun run participants, local walking group, new playgroup and many others. Adding lighting will make it safer for all users leaving camping sites and entering the town at night for meals ( approx 1km) and to fill in gaps in existing lighting. Our newer relationships with traditional owners is currently flourishing and this will be enhanced with our planed recognition of these people by art, totem poles, bush tucker and other visual things. Inclusion of some basic fitness equipment into existing lake track will serve a wider demographic.

A much needed project for a small community that swells in numbers during the warmer due to our lake.

I have walked back and forth from the township of Watchem, to the camping grounds at the lake. To have lighting of a night time would make the trip much more enjoyable of a night time, and also much safer.
The local lake flourishes of a Summer time, having lighting on the path will encourage more people to take the enjoyable walk to the local pub for a feed and a cold one, knowing they can take their kids with them, and be able to walk home in the night time.

It’s in the interest of safety for people walking into town or out to the lake late at night. To avoid having to walk on the road. Either if you are walking home late from a great night evening event at the lake or walking back to your camp site after a lovely meal and few drinks at the local pub. Walking on the road is not ideal, unfortunately it’s the only option we have at this point. So please pick this project and visit watchem lake some time.

A walking track upgrade will be great for the community. It will make a safer commute between the lake and around the town for both visitors and locals . And some exercise equipment will be a fantastic addition to the track .
