The Warracknabeal Courthouse is a beautiful building that is sadly currently unused and neglected. My idea is to refurbish the building to transform it into a community arts space that can be used for exhibitions, creative work and small performances. There are many working artists and art lovers in the region and limited opportunities and infrastructure. This project will make the Courthouse an inspiring, practical and accessible space – and most importantly open it up to the community. Working Heritage, who manage the building, has already committed the required additional funding to the project.

A refurbished Courthouse will provide an inspiring place for artists to work, gather, teach, exhibit, collaborate and share their work and skills with the local community and those from further afield. While the space could be used by local school and community groups, there is also potential for it to draw visiting artists and tourists alike to the town. This would have further economic and social benefits – and complement the existing success of initiatives like the Silo Art Trail.

The description of intent for this project would provide an excellent asset for the township of Warracknabeal and surrounding communities. It's a beautiful old building and deserves to be honoured and respected by being utilised in such a creative way.

Buildings like these are part of the towns history, and should be restored, maintained and utilised by all in the community.

The building is beautiful and it would be fantastic to see it brought back meaningfully into the community.
