Melbourne Water and Yarra Ranges Shire have recently commissioned an investigation, as part of Melb Water's life and liveability strategic plan for the Yarra River and have identified the area at Maher Bridge as a heavily used entry and exit area for paddling groups and that this is an ideal location for a canoe/kayak launch. Funding is now needed to implement the facility. Funding would include installation of a concrete low ramp and bollards, upgrades to car parking and signage. This area is the only entry/exit point that offers toilet facilities and carparking for paddling groups.

The Maher Bridge, Warburton entry/exit point is used by recreational paddlers, tourists and many organisatons running school based programs, with over 2000 students within Victoria using this stretch of river per year. This Entry/exit area is quite dangerous at present with a steep bank, making embarking/disembarking a craft difficult especially for those in large groups. We want to support educational based programs within the community, especially those that involve engaging children in active sport and educate them not only about their natural environment but on water safety. Uprgrades will provide a safe environment for paddlers participating in water based activities.

Not just one launching spot.
Perfect spot at East Warburton. Would make a great paddle into Warburton.
Great tourist potential.
Also, extend the rail trail out to East Warburton and even onto the Redwoods.
There is so much potential here, people just seem to be sitting on there hands.
This should have been done years ago.
I suppose we should be thankful something is about to be done.......better late than never !!!!!!!
