Noxious weeds can be problem in difficult to access public spaces such as roadsides, waterways and steep landscapes. Goats are historically the most versatile and effective agents of weed removal. However they are often considered to be too challenging or risky to utilize in public spaces.
To wage our war on weeds, I plan to partner with my local Council to implement the first stage of a pilot project in this state, using new technologies, such as solar fencing and remote power, digital collaring and geo-location tracking software. The program will integrate re-vegetation and other community benefits.

The benefits of non chemical weed control in sensitive public areas is to community health.
The project will demonstrate the benefits of new technologies in land management. The goats will foster and encourage links between our local community and tourist visitors, adding to the unique culture of Daylesford.
Local employment will be gained, initially through the employment of Digital Shepherds, and as the project develops though training and employment opportunities in animal husbandry, land management and new technology.
Goats make previously weed infested landscapes accessible and safe for the community. The community gets to enjoy the amenity of public land.

This is a brilliant and long overdue project for Daylesford and surrounds...the amount of poison being sprayed needs to be curbed. We need to back this project. Well done guys.

sounds great, congratulations, small question.....are they desexed so if they 'escape' they don't become another feral introduced animal... deer/rabbits..... once wild who wants to eat prickly blackberry bushes when there is other great easy to reach foliage

We need to stop using round up. This has great potential to be part of the solution. Good luck!

Something needs to be done to address the huge infestation of weeds like broom and gauze in the Daylesford area. Already native plant new growth is being the stifled by these weeds. This pilot project is worthy of support and has huge advantages over pesticides. I fully support it.

Ticks all the boxes, simple, sustainable and efficient. Worthy project which addresses much of the downside consequences of herbicide contamination and its inefficiencies.

Well done Vasko and Bradley! This project is really exciting. My family and I are avid foragers for wild foods throughout our region. Using goats instead of chemical herbicides for weed removal will mean a great deal for us, other animals, the soil, insects, waterways and microbes. I wish you huge success with the project that stands to become a much needed example for other councils wishing to reduce their use of poisons on the earth.

This is a much needed alternative to herbicide in our community. I support this well thought through project by people with the necessary empathetic connection to animals.
