Our maritime museum aim is to establish Western Port as a tourism destination. With a membership of 150 and a strong group of volunteers who enjoy the social interaction as well as helping to research and catalogue the growing collection of maritime memorabilia.
The Centre has its own in-house production team working on a production "Ghost Ships of The Victorian Coast" to record the present condition of wrecks off the Victorian coast.
We are working with "Soldier On" to help many ex-service personal as a Wellbeing Centre.
The extensive library books and records are available to the public for research.

We are working to establish The Victorian Maritime Centre as a tourism destination by providing a quality viable maritime attraction for visitors to the Mornington Peninsula.
With a struggling business community the Western Port region has long been an area traversed to access the more popular tourism regions.
Increasing numbers travel to the area to view our submarine, HMAS Otama which is moored just offshore from the museum.
Visits to the museum with its very modest entry fee attracts groups from, retirees, disability groups, social and probus clubs as well as individuals, family groups and former Australian/International mariners.

This project is well overdue. The area has a long standing relationship with Naval History and this project would only enhance this relationship with new generations

This is a worthy project worth consideration. The area is rich in maritime history and they do a wonderful job of preserving that history.

This project sounds good on paper, employment, education, tourism and maritime history. it will take significant funds to make it happen if it ever happens. It is unlikely to occur without funding and the right skill sets to make it happen. Things to consider how many Oberon submarines have been saved out to the six that were commissioned. So far we have HMAS Onslow Maritime museum Sydney in full, HMAS Otway Casing and Fin only Holbrook NSW, HMAS Ovens WA Maritime museum in full, Fin of Oxley and Orion HMAS Stirling and Rockingham Western Australia. We now have HMAS Otama rusting away in Crib Point that requires significant funds to get the project started. It is one mans dream that is shared by a few. I would love to see her again in her glory as a museum piece it holds some very significant moments in history. It also cost the lives of two of my mates lost at sea. If this project does not receive funding it is likely to become an environmental disaster costing a small fortune to clean up. I would love to see this project receive funding but also see that there has been members of the Hastings community who do not believe in the project. I wonder can you see the benefit in funding this project. If you just could assist in funding to get her out of the water they would come and see the real benefit that a submarine could be to the community.

This project would be wonderful for employment and tourism in this area. The Museum is all done by volunteers and is well worth a visit. It runs with No funding

Crib Point and the Hastings and the Westernport area need this facility to help put the area on the tourism map. And also to help preserve Victoria's Maritime Heritage.
