The Upcycled Plastics Discovery Centre is based on the open source project 'Precious Plastics' and aims to educate individuals, schools groups and community organisations through providing a facility to create new items from recycled plastics.

Community members will have access to the centre during set hours. Training and supervision will be provided to correctly sort the different plastic types and safely operate machinery. A Community Engagement Officer will work with schools and community groups to educate and engage wider participation. Promoting plastics as a resource will be highlighted through public 'collection' days on beaches, parks and rivers.

The Upcycled Plastics Discovery Centre will benefit the community by:
1. providing a facility for reducing domestic plastic waste via recycling
2. providing a facility to educate school groups, tourists and community members about plastics, and
3. providing two part time employment positions for a trainer/supervisor and Community Engagement Officer.
