TOMMY
Launch FILM & BOOK @ Chapel off Chapel
The FILM and BOOK "TOMMY" to be distributed to schools, psychologists, Relationship /Community Centres, the Courts, the Police and Family Consultants.
The film depicts a 9 yo boy who is navigating his parents' unhappy separation. Due to parental warfare, Tommy seeks refuge at times of anxiety in a make believe world where he downloads his troubles to his imaginary friend, Tiger Terry. Tiger takes Tommy on amazing journeys and helps Tommy forget about his turmoil. Family dynamics are complicated, with each parent wanting to pull Tommy into their own enmeshing trench.
This project will have widespread use by specialists assisting children; it will be viewed at public forums; screened for parents in counselling/mediation; distributed in hard copy to parents/children; be available on the internet. This project is to give KIDS a voice and to help them understand that they are not alone. For parents, it will assist them in appreciating what family violence does to children; and its impact from a psychological and emotional sense. It will focus parents on their precious gifts - their children and hopefully make an impact on the vast numbers concerning abused children within our community.
