THE PROVEN SOLUTION elsewhere in the world, that is finally now growing and will certainly thrive here in the land of Oz, for:
*those at risk of or who are suffering homelessness,
*a wonderful option for our aging population,
*fabulous for single parent families
*those that can no longer afford huge rent prices or mortgage payments can own their own again,
*the environment wins with less wastage of energy required to build or run a tiny home,
*materials (excess from standard new builds, demolition and even old furniture) reused rather than going to landfill,
*less is more and a tendancy towards living a simpler more sustainable lifestyle centred around family and community rather than around things,
...and the list goes on.
What's not to love about tiny houses?
Organisations committed to the promotion, building and establishment of tiny homes, and places for their residents to form villages/communities, should be supported and encouraged at every level for everybody's benefit and ultimately for a better world!

Tiny House Community Garden Project is a live-in experiment designed to prove tiny houses can not only provide more housing, but can also help to engage, educate, and inspire people to live a more sustainable lifestyle.
The Permabliz designed indigenous edible themed garden will source local plant specimens from St. Kilda Indigenous Nursery. Personal plots will be made available to locals, and the garden will welcome anyone wanting to learn about permaculture and sustainable living. Tiny home garden tours and permaculture education sessions will show that a well-designed living model can enhance community connection by creatively developing a neglected land.
Local residents in St Kilda will have access to the community garden to strengthen the community connection and have the opportunity to participate, experience and learn about permaculture and sustainable living through tiny tours and talk in the on-site tiny house.
The "garden to plate" model has been proven to have substantial health benefits, both mentally and physically. Increased physical activity, connection to the community, education and having a garden sanctuary to go to can help reduce stress.
The neglected land will be transformed into a well-manicured useful and productive environment that the community can enjoy.

I wish I love this comment, not just like it. You nailed it Tiny Dreaming. So well said. The potential applications are huge!

(Sorry. Voice to text while on the go, and I accidentally hit post too soon)
When I bought my first home (median price in Melb) it 3.5 times my gross annual salary as a new teacher. Now it's 10 or more times a new teachers annual salary. Tiny homes are part of the solution to that structural problem in the economy.
Besides that, they're funky and fabulous and they're warm and wonderful.
I couldn't agree more Matto_san. There is a huge gap between housing affordability and wages, and the market is not likely to get any easier for those who are just starting out. Tiny homes, although not for everyone, could have many applications to help ease the current housing crisis. And given the huge influx we have of students each year to Melbourne, I would really like to see high quality tiny homes being used to accommodate both student and teachers as well. Self-contained tiny homes in unused backyards could go a long way to providing a lot more affordable housing options.
And yes, I personally think they are funky and fabulous too. :)
Thank you for your support Matto_san. Much appreciated.
This is such a great idea! I am a big fan of the Tiny House movement and this is a lovely way to engage the community. Good luck!
Thank you BelH.
Although tiny homes aren't for everyone, the Tiny NP and I know how much tiny homes are in demand. It would be great to see the first Tiny House Community Garden happen in St Kilda. With such a progressive council and community, St Kilda a perfect fit to demonstrate a well thought out and functional tiny home model.
Thanks for your vote and support. Much appreciated.
Its the way of the future- iam glad to be supporting this cause. As much our product saves and maximises small space. i have followed this movement for many years and been interested in the concept that is taking over Australia not just the USA.
Thanks Wall Bed Centre. We appreciate the support. And thank you as well for coming and showing your support at the Home Show. It was good to reconnect.
Well done El! You have put your heart and soul into this and it deserves to win!!!
Amazing initiative, so excited for you
Hi Connieb,
Thank you!
A fantastic team of people have been working together on this project. We all have worked hard to design a model that support tiny homes, build with sustainable and regenerative concepts in mind, all while supporting local businesses.
The community responses have been great so far. Fingers crossed!
An excellent idea
Thanks ChefMark65. We appreciate the support.
I Have meet Elle (the organiser) and also the tiny house builder, in the Tiny house circles I revolve in, and I am very confident they will do an excellent job of this project.
Thanks for the support Tiny Houses Victoria. Once the project is up and running, you must come for a visit and a tiny tour.
Are you aware that this is private property? Have you secured the consent of the property owners and local residents?
Hello Go Pies,
Yes, we are aware that it is private property, and we have been given consent by the property owners to create this project and use the land.
We have been in the area on many occasions now speaking with the local residents. And I'm happy to say that the response has been overwhelmingly supportive in most cases. Of course, we have had a couple of concerns pop up, but so far we've not had anything pop up that we've been unable to work our a solution for. Having said that, not all of the local residents have been home when we have attempted to speak with them. We will be continuing our canvassing of the area to share the concept and answer any questions the community may have.
Thanks,
Elle
Good luck.
Thank you Em!
A tiny house for the caretaker of a community garden - a perfect match!
We thought so too. :)
Thanks for the support ALIkelyLad.
Anything that prevents homelessness is worth a try!
Hi Vera,
I agree. The more we can show that tiny homes can help to fill a gap, the more they will be accepted as a viable housing option.
Cheers,
Elle
We really need to get behind anything connected to Tiny Homes so they enter the mainstream as a viable affordable housing option. This is great.
Thank you for the supportive comment, Kathie.
Although tiny homes aren't a great fit for all, we saw at the Melbourne Home Show that demand is high, both for high and low-end tiny homes.
Tiny homes could do so much for the strained housing market, and we believe that a well thought out demonstration model is a great place to start.
Thanks for getting involved.
