Clunes is home to the first official gold discovery in Victoria. Our town boasts an impressive streetscape and significant historic sites. Unfortunately without help it is difficult for visitors and interested locals to discover the history of these sites. My idea is to create a self-guided audio tour using iPod technology that is researched and narrated by the children of Clunes. A guide map and booklet will also be available. The history tour will follow a marked walking trail along the main street and Creswick Creek in Clunes exploring stories of the past, as well as the present.

My project will allow both visitors and locals an enriched experience of our town and benefit tourism and local businesses. The children of Clunes will gain research and writing skills mentored by older community members. The children will also gain confidence and the satisfaction of planning a project for their local community and seeing it through to completion, increasing their sense of belonging and importance in Clunes. Locals will also be able to access the tours and discover the history and new stories of the town in which they live. Using iPods ensures the technology is accessible to all.
