This project will purchase an old caravan and convert it into a mobile laundry. The caravan will
be stripped, with the internal to be totally rebuilt to house water tanks, used for water storage,
washing machines and dryers. The draw bar will hold a generator so that the caravan is totally
self-sufficient and can be taken to areas where there is no external water or power sources available.
The caravan will be provided to local welfare organisations to take to areas of need in the
community to provide laundry services for homeless people.
There is a significant number of people in the Thomastown area who are living rough or
homeless. Many of these people face further marginalisation as they are unable to wash their
clothes and are avoided by members of the publc due to public hygiene issues. This leads to
further social isolation and also makes obtaining employment extremely difficult. The mobile
laundry will add to the suite of services available to homeless people to assist with trying to
improve their lives. The caravan will be taken to where the laundry service is required the most.

Can you get a job with dirty clothes? How can you improve your situation if you cant even keep clean. There are a lot of great projects on here. So thanks a lot for landing here and considering us. However of these worthy projects there are very few that could be considered truly life changing. This one is one of those rare few. Its not a garden or cute thing made of recycled materials (much as those projects are wonderful) Its not a fix & feel good and then over, It actually directly helps the homeless in a real, ongoing sustainable way. It is tempting to want to beautify & improve ones own area... but this pick my project is a chance at more than that. It is the very real opportunity to make an impact on less fortunate lives. Please think a little more than your own needs of where my kids want to play (I have kids in the area also and want the best for them) or what would help me in my life...this is a chance to really help people. In addition it is not just for homeless, it is for all the community. Washing machine broken? Are you a marginalised renter who cant afford the water or the machine? This project helps in a real way. Please, I ask it of you, take this opportunity to help someone other than yourself, other than what is good for me right here right now. Help our homeless, our marginalised, our struggling, help those less fortunate in our community in a sustainable and practical way. Help the homeless wash their clothes. Vote for us.
