'This Is Me' Youth Creative Arts Project

The ‘This Is Me’ project is a 40 week series of ground breaking singer/songwriter, music theatre and percussion programs aimed at youth. This series of workshops and events is designed to empower the most vulnerable and/or isolated young Victorians. To stretch their minds and emotions, explore their creativity, talent and abilities, discover their voice and the joy of performing, while engaging audiences through this empowering and inspirational experience. The outcomes will include working with and being mentored by industry professionals, writing, recording and production of new works; and presentation through public performances.

This project forms part of the vision of the School of Hard Knocks to develop creative arts programs for youth with the aim of building confidence, competence and self-esteem. This project uses innovative ways to improve the lives of young people in the Latrobe Valley region by enhancing their sense of belonging and connection to their own community. The programs improve physical and mental wellbeing, build resilience in the face of personal challenges and any other changes they are facing through education, work, family and relationships.
