Our voice/grief box will appear weekly in public places somewhere within our community, over 26 weeks. People may enter the box and record a message or story around grief, death and dying. This will be uploaded fortnightly onto our website memoleaves.com.
The project will culminate in a documentary screening at a mini market festival at Lonergan and Raven Funerals for Dying to Know Day 2019. This is an opportunity for the local community to enter a funeral home in true celebration and curiousity.
We aim to inspire a more compassionate community by encourage the conversation around dying death and grief.
Community is a group of people who have characteristics in common. The thing we all have in common is that we are all going to die, yet it is commonly taboo to talk about, and in not talking we disconnect. We want to foster connection and communication around the most important life event we will all experience. Death. Being reminded of our humanness, we hope to enhance our humanity and inspire true communion. How would a community that embraced the fact that we will all die and experience loss, live? We want to find out.

Our stories are and will be a powerful way to speak our truth. Be it sad, joyful, frustrating, confusing or humorous. Our shared stories remind each of us, we are not alone. I look forward to learning our communities rich and culturally diverse experiences.
