'The Veggie Empire' Community Food Plant Nursery

Two veggie gardeners with intellectual disability have found a space to set up their own start up micro-enterprise in producing food plants!
‘The Veggie Empire’ aim to share resources with community garden Beales Road Farm in Greensborough in order to produce vegetable and herb plants for use in the garden and distribution to the local community.
The small team includes the previously marginalised men and their supporting horticulturalists who have been working in trainee and volunteer capacities for over 9 years in different food gardening places in the local community.
This project is the next step on their vocational pathway.

The Veggie Empire is an inclusive gardening team that has supported community food production for the past 9 years whilst learning and maintaining horticulture skills.
Activities to date have included establishing a produce swap, volunteering in a local council nursery and assisting with community gardening projects.
The Veggie Empire now wishes to expand their current capacity to contribute to the health and well-being of their local community by setting up a nursery enterprise.
The team will increase awareness of the benefits of healthy, fresh food by growing food plants for distribution within the community.
