The Camperdown Courthouse is the heart of the town. It has the potential to transform the Corangamite community by being a vibrant cultural, arts, tourism and information hub, offering a flexible, inclusive space and outreach programs. The community recently secured another 5-year lease to run the facility, but reinvention (not reinventing the wheel) is needed to reach this potential.
This project will use seed funding to:
- Upgrade facilities to allow flexible use, while meeting heritage requirements;
- Build community capacity to operate a high standard facility through quality learning opportunities and resources
This project will transform the Corangamite community by activating the Courthouse to be a vibrant volunteer-driven hub conducting cultural, arts, tourism and information-related activities and programs with far reaching benefits that build social connection and inclusion, support cultural endeavour and economic well-being, and encourage community involvement in civic life, for the benefit of all.
It brings together all facets of the community, encourages partnerships and value adding, builds networks, supports a creative community, activates local and visitor economies and attracts and retains people locally. This project fosters community confidence, pride and positive self-image and contributes to mental health.
