The Scout and Community Shed will provide a new multi-purpose space for various community groups across all age ranges for daytime, evening and weekend use.
Co-financial contributors to this project, in addition to the $200,000 Pick My Project grant, will be Scouts Victoria who will match the $200,000 and the Shire of Murrindindi who have consented in principle to gift the land for the project.
Additional local community pledges of $40,000 have been received to date.
The Pick My Project grant will allow a $600,000 project to be delivered on the ground within the required 12 months.

Local community spaces within Alexandra and eastern Murrindindi (Eildon, Thornton, Buxton and Taggerty) suitable for active youth activities are limited and at capacity. This multi-purpose facility is designed for maximum use including:- daytime (playgroups, bush kinder, senior's exercise classes), after-school (dance, karate etc.) evening (Scouts), weekends (accommodation for visiting Scouts, community functions etc.).
Scouts have occupied this site adjacent to Mackenzie Reserve for over 80 years. The buildings are no longer fit for purpose for Scouts or the wider community. This joint venture has been under development with Murrindindi Shire for three years.

After raising three boys on my own I know the value of the Cub/Scout movement in the establishment of the basic values boys need to grow into responsible, reliable men! Too many of our young men are not able to access this important part of growing up! Also, the facility will offer other important groups in our community a place to call 'home'!

This will be more than a Scout Facility, allowing many community groups a different space to use for different events. Back to Scouting - its mixed gender, it ticks all the social, emotional, and physical development boxes, develops many positive human characteristics and various 'intelligences'. We need this.

You would be good to see this new Scout Facility built. The scouts have been active in the area for many years and had to make do with very old facilities, they service all ages and sexes.

As a former cub leader, I fully support this project. My son proudly lists his Queen's Scout award on his c.v. Lord Baden Powell maintained that the aim of the scout movement was "To Produce Efficient Adults," and, god knows, we need a few of them.

Such a brilliant cause, scouts offers boys and girls from primary age through to 25yrs continuous opportunities to have fun, make friends, to live life and to simply be more. It has been the making of my kids.

A great proposal - The provision of a range of leisure/ recreation / community activities and facilities is highly important for a broad cross section of the community in Country areas.
The existing facilities seem (from outside at least), to be quite dilapidated and appear to be in need of renovation.
By opening up the potential for use by a greater range of participants, this project will ensure that use of the facilities will grow, providing a great community asset and positive return on investment.

Fantastic - this town and area has had little new infrastructure or investment for years - a new community hall is so needed ! With the spaces lost at the old hospital (now closed) there are already other user groups wanting to know more about this hall ( U3A and Mothers Groups to start with !!!). And with the co-funding and council land gift this $200K converts to $600K of investment - Wow !!!
