Erin, well done for having the energy and initiative to support other Mums, parents and carers in your community. As a health professional working with women in their childbearing year I certainly support your idea. Sound mental health and wellbeing is imperative to a healthy family. Supporting each other in a safe space is brilliant. Good luck.

Yarra Ranges is a suburban area with a growing number of young families who would benefit from a hub specifically designed to advocate health and wellbeing, help foster childhood development and connect parents and carers in the community. Currently there is very little support specifically for parents to socialise, learn and feel supported along their parenting journey. My idea is to turn Blair Gowrie House into a Hub that will facilitate low cost workshops, events, playgroups and support services to help parents. For this to happen the facility needs a major facelift, furniture, facilitators, necessary equipment and promotion.
The Parents Hub will be a place that parents and carers can connect, attend facilitated community events, access support services, be part of activities and attend open playgroups, all at a low cost. The space will feel like a home away from home and will offer health and wellbeing support and a safe environment for families to have fun and grow. In a time when we are more connected than ever because of social media yet feel so disconnected from each other, this space will bring back the relationships we need to raise happy and healthy families.
