The 'Off The Hill' van will allow 3MDR to attend and broadcast from a much greater number of local community events, eg music & community festivals, sporting events, markets, concerts & school fetes, etc. Everyone will be able to participate in these broadcasts, see how 3MDR works and get involved!! Thus, increasing community awareness of, and involvement with, 3MDR - their local community radio station.
3MDR is located in a bushfire prone area, so we need this van to facilitate us being 'Off The Hill' in emergency situations and transmitting alerts and other localised information for our communities.
The 'Off The Hill' van will revolutionise 3MDR’s ability to engage with our community and to increase opportunities for community members to be involved at the station. The ability to formally regain our official emergency broadcaster status would take 3MDR back to our roots and provide an invaluable service to our local communities in times of extreme stress.
A recent report commissioned by the Community Broadcasting Foundation shows that participation in community radio can significantly reduce social isolation and loneliness through connecting both listeners and volunteers with their local communities.

Thanks Ricksteen...not many days til voting closes...we have aour fingers crossed that 3MDR can get mobile and return to emergency broadcasting and community events :)
Worthwhile
Thanks Matthew :)
This crew is such an active part of the community- to allow them to support others through emergency announcements, event presence and live broadcasts would be incredible!
Thanks H_DM :)
The importance of localised emergency broadcasting capabilities for community radio 3MDR seems to be high on the wish list for residents of the bushfire prone Dandenong Ranges.
The OB Van will certainly make a big difference in helping 3MDR to get back to its emergency broadcasting roots.
Absolutely required for emergency broadcast and community events involvement.
Thanks CliveRW :) Your support is appreciated by us all here at community radio 3MDR
I believe this van would be a vital link to the community in the event of an emergency.
Thanks Reidys.....3MDR was born from the ashes of Ash Wednesday and it would be great if the local radio station could return to being an authorised emergency broadcaster for the communities of the beautiful, but fire prone, Dandenong Ranges.
3MDR are a fantastic part of our community. They need all the help they can get to continue all the good work they do!
Thanks John! We're ever so appreciative of the support and feedback the station is receiving for the Off The Hill project. The emergency broadcasting aspect is something our community members would like to see the station offering and securing the funding to purchase and fit out a mobile studio will assist 3MDR in attaining its official emergency broadcaster status.
All you guys have said it already. We really could do with this!
I, as have many others living in the hills have over the years witnessed various, serious bushfire emergencies. Up-to-date accurate information was a nightmare to find at times, not to mention the lack of information was scary and downright dangerous too. You kinda need to know what’s fully going on to enact your bushfire plan now don’t you? Mind you, the CFA do an awesome job, and without those sirens and their hard work we’d be um...screwed. You see, I recall switching through stations on tv, checking the radio stations...nada. They were only interested in the latest pop hits, the cricket or some desperate housewives basal shenanigans. ....entertainment bla!
The app was ok, but a little slow when we got that, reliability of phone/internet signal is never guaranteed in the hills anyway. Resorting to scanners and trying to decipher codes, frequencies was usually the best, but just tuning-in the bloody things is a nightmare. I needed the help of our local fire captain to get it done properly.
This project would offer fantastic opportunities for 3MDR to help offer safety and connectedness for our community as a whole.
It’s a must!
Fingers X’d
Thanks Chris!!!!
3MDR are a vital part of our community. They know our community well, engaging at a deep & in depth level, right across the community. An OB van would extend their reach even further into the community by increasing their access to the community with a physical presence at community events.
Also because we live in a high risk bushfire zone we need 3MDR's specialist in-depth, local knowledge to provide us with 'real' on-the ground emergency information & alerts support. The major broadcasters during the last major bushfires in our area provided very non-specific, inaccurate information & sensationalist reports, adding greatly to our stresses when we were at our most vulnerable. Please support the local experts to assist us to feel safe, well informed & confident to make the safest possible decisions if & when future emergencies arise.
Thanks so much Meg's Family!!
This would be game-changer! 3mdr is the loving and giving heart of our community. An OB Van would spread the joy - and the outreach - way further. So many more groups would benefit from being heard in this way. Best. Idea. Ever.
Thanks Tina!!!
Got my vote!!!!
Cheers Ben!!!
Tick
Thanks Kat!!!
AN OB Van would be fabulous for so many reasons - to be able to broadcast from different locations would open so many more doors to support the community and broaden the listener base which would be great for everyone - go 3MDR! Community Radio rocks!
Cheers Tracey!!
3MDR is the life saver of so many people in the hills, particularly people who are isolated, aged, lonely, incapacitated or just wanting to link with their community, learn, listen and contribute. It should absolutely be supported as much as possible.
Thanks so much Kaz!!
Better than sliced bread!
You know it!!
On it guys! fabulous project idea and one I'd love to see realized.
Thanks so much!!
This is a vital project for the region, enabling continued broadcasting in case of bushfire. The Dandenongs are one of the most bush fire prone regions in the world.
Thanks Anita!!
3MDR's mobile studio would serve the community where the action is happening. Community radio connects us all and deserves our backing.
Thanks Bob!!
This project would be an incredible means of communication and support across the whole community of all ages and cultures. It is a must that this project be given the green light.
Thanks John!!!
This would service the entire community rather than just one group or activity.
It would also compliment the critical safety services, much needed during the bush fire season
Cheers Jay!!
The guys and girls at 3mdr are an amazing community asset and this would make their volunteer hours so much more enjoyable, productive and possible.
Love ya Non xx

It is wonderful when the community comes together to show support of those people and companies that want to make a difference in the lives of many. Please help 3MDR to be able to reach out to more people and save lives when the going gets tough, and when special events happen.
