Parker Place is located in the Ballarat suburb of Redan and provides accommodation and support for women and children who have experienced homelessness for a variety of reasons, including fleeing from family violence. The accommodation units have tiny courtyards that are entirely concreted. Adjacent to the units is an unused common area, which is a perfect space to establish a child friendly, and inclusive fruit and vegetable garden. The garden is envisaged to be for families living on site and for our LARF mentoring program; to connect with nature and each other and enhance connection with the local community.

The suburb of Redan possesses a well-established community of food sharing locations; establishing our own garden will serve the purpose of connecting the people who live in the accommodation and the children in our LARF program with the local community and each other.

The “Nurture of Nature Garden" will create a safe, inclusive and nurturing outdoor space to support our families and children.

People growing and sharing food, helping and becoming involved builds connectedness, promotes health and healing and strengthens resilience.
Communities flourish when individuals regularly do a variety of simple things together that give them a chance to connect.

What a great way for for families to learn about growing food to eat, enjoying a healthy diet while connecting with their community.
